Reviews: Lost Planet and Wii Sports
The next game is Wii Sports. Ahh, good old Wii Sports. The game is perfect in almost every sense. It eels great whacking the Wiimote at the tennis ball the first time you hook upo the Wii. It is also a great hooker game for those who do not own a Wii and play it. They get hooked on the game. The review is very in depth and i spent a lot of time of it Enjoy!

News: Mario Kart Wii Text Chat Debunked
Nintendo of Europe originally told IGN: "You can create rooms for friends to join and even text chat while you're waiting for other racers." Good news then. Except they were telling porkies...Source: computerandvideogames.com
Nintendo's American operation quickly contacted the publication to explain that while there will be "text chat" in Mario Kart Wii's online mode, it'll be in the form of pre-determined phrases that can be sent as messages before the match (such as "let's race!" or "No Wario Stadium shortcut!" we presume).
There'll be no proper communication between friends in Mario Kart Wii, then. Thank you Nintendo for once again protecting us from the evils of the internet.
At least the pre-determined text will probably allow us to play with foreign racers, auto translated and all that.

Virtual Console Monday: 2/25/08
This week we got Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards and Psychosis
Now from what I know, Kirby 64 is a GREAT game. I own it for the 64 and STRONGLY recommend it if you have not played it. I did a review on it a while ago, and I'll post that here. It is worth the 10 dollars. As for Psychosis I have never heard of it or played it. Here is a description for each from the Nintendo site.
Kirby's first 3-D adventure is also his Nintendo 64 debut, and it finds the always-versatile hero battling a new enemy called Dark Matter. Dark Matter is after a distant land's powerful crystal, but a young fairy named Ribbon attempts to save it by escaping with the gem to Dream Land. Now the crystal has been broken, and it's scattered around the world. Take control of Kirby and help him journey across six worlds, battling a wide variety of enemies and challenging bosses, as he tries to collect all 100 pieces of the shattered crystal. Along the way, you'll use Kirby's trademark copying ability to use enemies' strengths against them. Not only that, but try combining any two abilities to create a brand-new one that is usually stronger than the original. Throw in three exciting multiplayer minigames, and you've got a package of which even King Dedede would be proud. Fans of Kirby and action games with bright, colorful graphics should vacuum this one up.
My review for Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
This is a side-scrolling shooter played in a world created from the mind of a twisted demon. Your soul has suddenly wandered into that evil world that exists in every person's heart. The only way out is to blast your way past the grotesque creatures that block your path in five "causes" (stages). You must face the dangers of this psychedelic world by making full use of three shot types and the satellite option. With power-ups, you can change your shots to a wide-coverage beam, a satellite-generated laser and more. Each shot type can be powered up to three levels. You can also block enemy fire by rotating the satellites to a desired position. How you use these features will be the key to successfully escaping this strange and surreal world.

News: Commodore 64 Coming Virtual Console!
So its a computer. I'm still puzzled about what is can do, but I think it is a computer that was more of a gaming system. Also it was an expencive sucker back when it came out! More than the PS3!The Commodore 64 is an 8-bit home computer released by Commodore International in August, 1982, at a price of US$595. Preceded by the Commodore VIC-20 and Commodore MAX Machine, the C64 features 64 kilobytes (64×210 bytes) of RAM with sound and graphics performance that were superior to IBM-compatible computers of that time.
The Commodore 64 is commonly referred to as the C64 or C=64 and occasionally known as CBM 64 (Commodore Business Machines Model number 64), or VIC-64[1]. It has also been affectionately nicknamed the "breadbox" and "bullnose" due to its shape.

News: Pay to Play: Wii's Online Service going to be Subscription Based?
Well its official. Nintendo has announced that some of its upcoming Nintendo Wi-Fi games will require a fee to play. I would imagine that would be because of MMOs. Like Animal Crossing. As much as I want Animal Crossing if it requires a fee, then that turns me off a bit. Also this may be for games that use a head set. SO I have a theory. The simple Wi-Fi we currently have is for the casual gamers, so its free. The pay to play online is most likely going to include MMO's , and headsets. For us hardcore gamers. Either way its a bit odd, because this goes against Nintendo's online plan. Which was to make things free. So if they do make all the good games cost a fee, then please make the service better than Xbox Live!

Preview: Okami Comes to Wii!
Well we have heard of this for a few months now, but there has little known about the game except for the fact it is going to be a port of the PS2 version. Except with added Wii controls. Which is great. Also there have been no screens or videos as well. Until now. We now see that IGN got their hands on a copy and they like it. Here is a bit of what they thought.
The game features a unique visual presentation made to look like traditional Japanese sumi-e brush paintings. On PlayStation 2, the in-world game graphics appear to drawn to life on a virtual landscape textured in rice paper, meant to harken back to ancient Japanese art. You will notice in our screenshots and videos that while the majority of the visual sense is maintained in the Wii build, the parchment paper texture is conspicuously absent. We suspect this is a filter that Ready at Dawn was unable to accurately translate to Wii. In a side-by-side visual comparison with the PS2 incarnation, we also noticed that the original title sports more subtle bloom work. However, to its credit, the Wii update to the game runs in progressive-scan (480p) and a quasi-16:9 widescreen mode -- we call it "quasi" because it's not full resolution; thin black bars remain on each side of the screen. The framerate differences separating the two versions are negligible, meanwhile. The ported build features a noticeably cleaner look, partly because of the missing parchment filter and partly because it's running in 480p. However, it's worth noting that everything also looks brighter and more vibrant on Nintendo's system.
Whatever visual sacrifices have been introduced in the Wii version are outweighed by the control advancements made to the build. You control Amaterasu with the nunchuk's analog stick and the wolf is effortlessly maneuvered through huge 3D environments as she quests to save the world from the evils of Orochi. The wolf barks / bites and digs with the C and Z buttons respectively, the former useful for carrying items and the latter for finding hidden goodies buried throughout the universe, like food and treasure. The A button on the Wii remote is used for jumping; tap it again when Amaterasu is near a wall or cliff and she'll double-jump up it. The 1 and 2 buttons toggle different camera views and bring up an on-screen map and the plus button skips cinematics, which is new to the Wii incarnation of the game; trust us, after 20 minutes of opening cut-scenes, you'll be thankful.
You simply waggle the Wii remote left and right and Amaterasu will dart forward and attack enemies. You can chain together combos very effectively by motioning left and right with Nintendo's controller and you can even combo in mid-air by leaping up and then gesturing with the Wii remote. It's not always as easy as it sounds, however, to keep a combo going. The simple button taps on the PS2 are easier to pull off in succession, in our experience, but using the Wii remote has a tactile feel and once you get the timing down, the combos will come. (You can extend Amaterasu's combo attacks by purchasing upgrades throughout the adventure.)
I am really excited for this game, from the videos and screens I have seen, I may actually go out and buy it. The forty dollar price tag helps. But this game comes out in March. March is Brawl time, so hopefully this game will not be overlooked.

Preview: Samba De Amigo Shaking Over to Wii
If you do not know what Samba De Amigo is allow me to explain. It was a game made by Sega for the Dreamcast. The catch here was that the Dreamcast was about done. The system was selling terribly and Sega was making insane price cuts. Along comes a first party title, but alas. Its costs about $200 dollars. Its a recipe for disaster. And the game did not sell. Now a few years later Samba may have found his way home. The Wii. Perfect. The Wiimote and Nunchuck have the motion built in so not $200 dollar super sensitive maracas. Just the plain old Wiimote and nunchuck. The game is a rhythm game with a Spanish feel. Looks interesting. I likes me a good rhythm games so this may be worth it...

News: PS3 Beats 360 Sales for January
Well we all laughed at poked fun at the PS3 ever since it came out in 2006. We mocked it and threw our 360 headsets and wiimotes at it and laughed. Well PS3 is apparently gaining some steam. Its beat the Xbox 360 in number or consoles sold for the month of January. Will this new trend continue throughout the coming months. Possibly. Sony claims that 2008 is the PS3's year and with the titles coming in the next couple of months, I wouldn't have much of an argument. Still Xbox 360 has time to play some catch up while the Wii sits of its throne.

Preview: Lost Planet PS3 Gets all the Goodies
Well you can expect my reaction. Before I begin this post you must know that I am obsessed with Lost Planet. I have the game for 360 and its great. Ok, now time to begin.
PS3 OWNERS GET ALL THE EXTRA XBOX DOWNLOADABLE MAPS FOR FREE WITH THE DISC, AS WELL AS THE PC BONUS MISSIONS AND CHARACTERS AS WELL AS LUKA AND HER OWN MISSIONS! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Now that the long-awaited PS3 version is nearing release (at a notably lower price point than usual PS3 releases: $40), we decided it would be a good time to investigate what this latest version has to offer, as well as discern whatever aesthetic differences the PS3 version might offer.First up, the easy stuff. You could say that Lost Planet PS3 is an extreme value if you consider that all of the online maps, many of which were paid downloadable content on Xbox 360, are included on the disc from the get-go. Plus, the PS3 version has the additional playable characters found in the PC version -- namely Frank West from Dead Rising and Mega Man (although it's really Frank West in the Dead Rising Mega Man outfit) -- as well as brand-new playable character Luka, who previously only figured into the game's cut-scenes and storyline. Luka has missions of her own, much like Ada Wong's excursions in Resident Evil 4. Luka, it must be said, would make for a good heroine in future iterations of Lost Planet, should Capcom not renew its contract with Korean star Lee Byung-Hun.
Aside from those PS3-specific additions, the game is by and large the same games as its Xbox 360 counterpart, featuring the same 'zoom' and 'wide' camera configurations, with the zoom view bringing the camera in a little closer to the main character. Its placement is more central to the screen, though, as opposed to the character being more on the left part of the screen like Leon Kennedy's view in Resident Evil 4.
There are downsides to this largess, though, which mostly look to come in the form of a less stable framerate and lower texture quality than the Xbox 360 release. Another issue is how the PS3 controller's analog response feels compared to that of the 360 controller. Aiming is a lot trickier, as the lack of resistance on the SixAxis thumbsticks leads to too-sensitive controls. An auto-targeting option somewhat alleviates targeting troubles, but removes the ability to independently target things like explosive oil drums if they're in the vicinity of moving targets.
All I gotta say is they better make more downloadable content for the 360 version....

News: Wii Fit Prototype Balanceboards!
We all know what the final Wii Fit balance board will look like, but what were some of Nintendo's older ideas from before the final decision was made? Well some of the idea came from household scales, and in the prototype balance boards you actually had to attach the Wiimote to it!
Here are some pictures!

Secret Agent Clank Trailer!
We all know and like the Ratchet and Clank series that has been on the PS2, PS3, and PSP. Now we have yet another game to look forward to and its hitting the PSP. Its Secret Agent Clank. For anyone who has played the third Ratchet and Clank game we know Clank has landed a role in a blockbuster film, that is very similar to James Bond. Tux and all.
This entire game seems to be based off Clanks 007ish adventures, and its looking great. All action with that crazy humor only provided in a Ratchet and Clank game. This entire game you seem to be playing as the little robot Clank for the whole game. Sound like Daxter? I dunno, but if the furball could pull it off two years ago, then our robotic friend should be just fine.

News: Guitar Hero: Aerosmith on its way!
Getting a little tired of trying to beat Through the Fire and the Flames on Expert in GH3? No. Didn't think so. But everyone wants a new Guitar Hero to play and now we get one. Well more like a fourth of one. The next Guitar Hero will be called Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. As you may have guessed by now all the songs are by Aerosmith. Its similar to Rock the 80's where the songs fit a certain theme. These games are meant to hold us over until GH4. Which has no release date as of yet, but none the less will rock. No pun intended.
I'm a classic rock junkie. I like it alot. I like the Scorpions, Journey, Led Zepplen, Guns and Roses, etc. When it comes to Aerosmith, I think they are alright. Not a HUGE fan, but I do like their songs. So I may get this because it will most likely be at a reduced price like Rock the 80's was. This game will be coming to Wii, 360, PS2, and PS3.To get Guitar Hero fans pumped for Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, the song "Dream On" will be free to download February 16-18 over Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. I wish I had Xbox Live.

News: Final Mario Kart Wii Boxart and Logo are Decided!
Well at long last we have the final boxart and logo for Mario Kart Wii. Additionally we now hat the game will be really called Mario Kart Wii. Funny, because it sounds like too simple a name for a Nintendo game. Well except for the Wii series like Wii Sports and Wii Play. But Nintendo knows when it comes to their games.
But anyway I really like the logo and the boxart is pretty cool and funny. The box it comes in has the game case along with a White racing wheel that is diffrent from the third party ones we saw when the Wii released. Those were not a full circle. The Wii Wheel is a full circle with a part in the middle to place your Wiimote. Also I am pretty sure it will still retail at $49.99 so we get a free wheel. Nice.

Xbox Originals - Black, Ninja Gaiden, and Pirates!
Well the Xbox Originals library just got another update. The Xbox Originals allows you to purchase your favorite original Xbox games on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and download and play them on your Xbox 360. This is done by emulation similar to how Nintendo operates their Virtual Console. The Xbox Originals needs an update and we have three great games to chose from. Heres an big of what IGN had to say about each game.
Black
Black has stood the test of time. Though it's two years old and from a last-gen system, Black looks better than some recent shooters on Xbox 360. The richly detailed environments feature a high level of destructibility and the weapons look damned sexy. The only ugly thing in Black is the ragdoll deaths, which are lackluster compared to the over-the-top action showcased throughout the game. Black's biggest drawback on Xbox was its length. It's still a very short game that lacks any multiplayer. However, it's a steal for $15. Honestly, you may forget you're playing an Xbox Original it looks so good.
Ninja Gaiden
Ninja Gaiden has had a number of iterations to the point of almost being redundant. Still, there's no denying that this is one of the greatest action games of all time. If Devil May Cry 4 isn't doing it for you, do yourself a favor and give Ninja Gaiden Black a try. The game is a true test of willpower and amazingly deep. The main game will take anywhere from 12-20 hours to complete and the Mission mode will suck up even more of your time. Worth $15? Ninja Gaiden Black is still worth $30.
Pirates!
Pirates! is a classic. And by classic we mean it is now 20 years old. It is essentially the same game as when it first set sail. While Pirates! is a fun and highly addictive game, all of the new elements detract from what made the original great. This includes a horrendous dancing mini-game to woo the Governor's daughter. Call it Dance Dance De-evolution. If you can look past the somewhat outdated graphics and accept that little has changed in the past two decades, Pirates! is certainly a fun romp
Now I personally hear that all these games are great and were some of the must pown games for the original Xbox, I never owned one., but I played Pirates! a while back when it came out and I liked it. Black looks interesting and it has extremely good graphics. Ninja Gaiden seems to be a some like it and other don't type of game. Never tried it so I can't say. But I would probably get Pirates! and possibly Black....

News: KOTOR is now uncertain again
Well we have all heard the rumors of the next Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic being a MMO. But just when we think that, we hear from both LucasArts, and EA that the MMO project they were talking about is an entirely diffrent game. So is KOTOR 3 a MMO. Who knows. They never said it was not going to be, but I highly doubt they will work on two MMOs a the same time. But I am almost certain it will have some sort of Xbox Live features added on to it. For now we can hope it is single or multiplayer, but we know they need to release it and soon!
So where does BioWare stand in all of this? We know there's a new MMO on the way, and that both EA and LucasArts have acknowledged this publicly, but there's no definite answer on whether or not we'll see KOTOR's return in the future. In contacting LucasArts about its works with BioWare, and the possibility of a future KOTOR product, the company stated that, "Yes, we are working with BioWare. We've announced that we're working with the developer on a project, but it has nothing to do with Knights of the Old Republic."

News: Lord of the Rings Game in Production by Pandemic
But this game is being kept under wrpas. Not much at all is know about the game except thaa t is codenamed "Project Y." I hope it is an action game and not another role playing game. The last Role Playing LOTR game was The Third Age, and while it wasn't bad I think the LOTR franchise is more of an action game.

News: Super Smash Bros Brawl Goes Platinum! :)
OH YEAH!
With over 800,000 units sold in its first week of availability in Japan, it was a given that Smash Bros. Brawl would cross the million sold mark faster than any Wii game before it. Sure enough, the game managed just that, as Famitsu.com, citing sales data from its publisher Enterbrain, reports today that Brawl sales reached the 1,082,344 mark on the 10th.
Honestly, this comes to no great surprise to me. I knew that Super Smash Bros Brawl wasa going to be a great game, and it is. It is selling EXTREMELY well in Japan, and clearly going to do the same in other regions on its release. It may even sell faster and better because of hte wait. But congratulations Nintendo you win.

Preview: Sega Super Stars Tennis: Ace or a Fault with the Wii?
Well its almost common knowledge by now that almost anything 3-D that Sonic Team makes ends up a mediocre game, with yet another failed attempt at bring back Sonic... well failed. We saw this with Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, so should we expect any better from Sega Superstars Tennis?
So we see that Tennis is one of the most popular games on Wii Sports. A game bundled with Wii's and has been very well receipted. Nintendo aced the tennis formula for gameplay, and surprisingly, not one Tennis game has been made after Wii Sports. Which released when the Wii did... November 19, 2006. Here we are in 2008 almost a year and a half later, and still no tennis game? But now Sega has stepped up with a tennis game, and with no word on that Mario Tennis game, this may be the only tennis game we have for a while.
Here is a bit of Gamespots' impressions with the game.
The gameplay here is about as straightforward as you'd expect. You have a regular power swing and a slice, and you can mix the two up for other kinds of shots. Your special-attack gauge is represented by a star underneath your character that will slowly fill up as you successfully keep up a volley with your opponent. Most of the special attacks we saw involve confusing your opponent or cluttering up his or her side of the court. Sonic morphs into Super Sonic, at which point his shots will take random angular turns after he makes them. AiAi flings a bunch of banana peels onto the other side of the court with every shot. Eggman similarly throws a few electrified, spiky balls over the net. These special abilities last for only a few shots, and you lose them after someone scores a point, so they aren't exactly match-winners in their own right. However, they can still give you an advantage at times.
Superstars Tennis has the standard single-match and tournament modes you'd expect out of a sports game, but we were most intrigued by the superstars mode, which gives you a number of themed missions to complete that will subsequently unlock new content (such as the aforementioned characters, new courts, and new music tracks). In the House of the Dead challenges we tried, we had to hit balls across the court at an endless wave of zombies that were shambling toward us. In a follow-up mission, we had to score a specific number of aptly named "zombie combos" by taking down two or more zombies with one shot. Another Jet Set Radio-themed mission had us skating around the court with Beat to pick up spray-paint cans being tossed in front of us, and in the second version of this challenge, we had to use these color-coded spray-paint cans to fill in a design on the opposite side of the court in a sort of paint-by-numbers fashion.

News: Mario Kart Wii Update!
Details for the game are not well known, but here is what we DO know. We know that Nintendo will have a new Wii Channel for the game. Where have we seen this before? Oh yeah, Wii Fit. Apparently the channel will let you customize you Miis into the game. Whether they are racers is not known, but Nintendo seems to be hinting at that.
Additionally Nintendo confirmed that there will be 12 player online play with the game. I look at this as great, because I like Wi-Fi games, and need some racing action on my Wii. Hopefully Nintendo will release their headset they hinted at before this games release, so we can use it with Mario Kart.
We already know that they are incorpirating motorbikes into the game, and hopefully Wario will get his motorcycle from Brawl, which only makes sense. Thats all the news for now. Be sure to race to the site to check for updates, and know YOUR video game news!
